Generational Patterns & High Achievement

Seeing trauma & hidden stress patterns run deep

I’ve been building health and wellness businesses for over twenty years – managing teams, working with clients, growing things from the ground up, and now developing The Inherited Patterns Project. I’m a perfectionist, a grafter, someone who runs on momentum, and for a long time that looked like enough. From the outside, everything was working.

But I also grew up in a home where emotions didn’t get airtime. One parent emotionally avoidant, the other with severe OCD, the environment confusing, controlling and aggressive in ways that were hard to make sense of as a child. I’d had multiple surgeries before I was eight – a small body learning very early that it wasn’t safe, with no way to process that fear.

I did what most people do with that kind of start – I tried to out-run it. Off the rails as a teenager, but fortunately I got back on track, I was determined to prove myself and build a career by performing, attaining, doing lots at once. This pattern is familiar with high achievers, and the drive is very real.

Post-Natal Depression To Trauma-Informed

How lived experience shaped a trauma-attuned practice

Then I had children, and the body stopped cooperating. Postnatal depression, panic attacks, anxiety that no amount of willpower or logic could touch. For the first time I could feel that what I was carrying wasn’t all mine. The avoidance, the rigidity, the way stress lived in my body – inherited patterns playing out in real time. That was the point where everything changed direction. I started training in trauma release for the nervous system, Brainspotting for emotional processing, and nutrigenomics for the genetic picture nobody was joining up. I was still running a business at the same time, because that’s who I am – I do a lot while I’m moving – although at times I was knocked down to sit with what had been buried, so I could do the deep shadow work.

Some of it was also a homecoming. I’m multiracial – Borneo Dayak, Hakka Chinese and English – shamanic (manang) healing and body-based ritual runs through my lineage. Working with the body and somatics to release challenges and experiences is not a new idea; it’s a practice carried across generations and cultures long before Western psychology and psychiatry decided it had the monopoly. Colonisation didn’t just take land and language – it took entire systems of knowing how to learn and grow, and buried them under one model claiming to be the only valid one. But every inherited structure can hold someone down, whatever shape it takes – family, culture, class, expectation. Understanding that history changes how I practise.

Holding multiple heritages means holding multiple histories, and some of them pull in different directions. That’s something I understand from the inside, and it shapes how I sit with clients navigating their own layered inheritance – particularly those carrying diaspora, cultural complexity, or patterns that don’t fit neatly into one story. Coming to this work didn’t all feel new, parts of it felt like remembering something I’d always known.

Grief, Menopause & The Nervous System

Loss & menopause deepen nervous system work

Then I lost both my parents, and grief cracked open everything I thought I’d already dealt with. Losing the people whose patterns I’d spent years unpicking – alongside shame, guilt and my own mortality. It took me deeper into the generational wounds than anything else could have, and it gave me a respect for the process that I carry into every session.

Now I’m in menopause, and another layer has surfaced. More history, more of the inherited material working its way through, and I’m still in it. I don’t think you stop walking alongside your shadows, you just learn to make friends with them. But I know the tools, I trust the method, and that changes how I meet whatever comes next.

The Happy Reset® Inherited Patterns Project is a method built from all of that. Not from a textbook, from a life that demanded I find what works, and the professional training to bring it to other people navigating their own version.

Burnout, Anxiety & Hidden Patterns

Why going beyond talk therapy works

You might be running a business and sleeping three hours a night. You might be the person everyone leans on and nobody thinks to check in with. You might be holding a senior role together while privately falling apart, or navigating a divorce, a bereavement, a health scare that nobody at work knows about.

Maybe your gut has been a mess for years and no one can tell you why. Maybe the anxiety showed up with menopause and hasn’t left. Maybe you’re performing brilliantly and still feel like something fundamental is off – and you’re exhausted from pretending it isn’t.

The people who find me tend to have one thing in common. They’ve tried the logical route. The talking. The thinking their way through it. The pushing harder. And somewhere along the way they’ve started to realise that what they’re dealing with didn’t start recently, and it isn’t going to respond to willpower alone.

That’s where this work begins. Your body, your brain and your history are all part of the same picture – and until someone works with all three, the pattern keeps repeating.
